Tip: an old phone or tablet left by the TV works great as the family's Scene Skipper device.
Roku — any Roku streaming player or Roku TV. It's the only TV device we support right now. Fire TV, Google TV, Apple TV, and Samsung TVs aren't supported yet; we'd like to add more devices, but we don't have dates.
On Roku: Disney+, Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Max, Peacock, Paramount+, and Apple TV+. You need an ad-free plan of the service — ads change the timing in ways we can't yet handle reliably, so ad-supported plans aren't supported. Scene Skipper uses your own subscription; it doesn't provide any video.
Your phone or tablet does the skipping, so it needs to stay at home, on the same Wi-Fi as your Roku, for the whole movie. It doesn't need to be in the room, and it can be locked — just keep notifications on. If you're heading out while the kids watch, an old phone or tablet left by the TV works great.
Scene Skipper can't skip anything while your phone can't reach the Roku. When that happens, the app alerts you. On iPhone, every phone signed in to your account also gets a "Protection paused" notification, so another parent at home knows too.
Your Roku has a setting that controls whether apps on your network can control it. On your Roku, go to Settings → System → Advanced System Settings → Control by Mobile Apps and choose Enabled. (On older Rokus, set Network access to Default.) Then tap Search again in Scene Skipper.
No. Use one account per household and sign in with the same email and password on each parent's phone or tablet. There's no charge per phone.
Your account connects to one Roku at a time. To use a different Roku, connect to it in the app — switching is free and you can do it anytime. Forgetting the Roku (Settings → Forget) on any phone or tablet forgets it for the whole account.
New subscribers get 7 days free, handled by the App Store or Google Play. If you cancel before the trial ends, you won't be charged. If your subscription ends, Scene Skipper simply stops skipping scenes — your saved lists stay where they are and start working again when you resubscribe.
$4.99/month or $29.99/year, for your household's account. Your subscription is billed and managed by Apple or Google, so you cancel it — or ask about a refund — there: on iPhone or iPad in Settings → your name → Subscriptions, and on Android in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
Tap "Forgot password?" on the sign-in screen and we'll email you a one-time code to reset it. If it doesn't arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder, then email [email protected].
You can delete your account from Settings in the app, or email [email protected] and we'll do it for you. Deleting your account doesn't cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription — cancel that separately. See our privacy policy for exactly what's removed.
Email [email protected]. If you're reporting a problem, it helps enormously to include your Roku model, your phone or tablet, the streaming service, and the movie — that's usually enough for us to reproduce it.
